*In principle, small watercraft shorter than three meters and a power output below 1.5kW do not need a license.

First class: Navigation of small watercraft without distance restriction. A qualified engineer must be on board farther than 100 nautical miles from the shoreline.
Second class: Navigation of small watercraft within five nautical miles (ca. 9km) from the shoreline. Its lake/river restriction applies only to craft of less than five gross tonnage and a power output below 15kW.
Personal watercraft (PWC): Navigation of personal watercraft within two nautical miles (ca. 3.7km) from the shoreline. First class and second class licenses do not include PWC.
