Data breaches in the healthcare industry are a huge cause for concern. Under the pressure of COVID-19, healthcare organizations in the U.S. became a target for cyber attacks in 2020. According to cyber security professionals, one of the reasons for such vulnerability in the healthcare industry is that a lot of data, including sensitive data, is open to all employees at healthcare organizations.
As of March 2021, more than 11 million of the 54 million files at healthcare organizations were accessible to every employee. Among these exposed files, there were over 350,000 sensitive files, around 30,000 of which were open to all employees.
