Worldwide, about 25 percent of women are not free to say no to sex. The situation in Western and Central Africa is particularly concerning. According to a recent study, only two out of ten women in Senegal had the power to say no to sex. In Mali and Niger, the percentage of women who could make this decision for themselves amounted to 31 percent and 35 percent, respectively, some of the lowest shares in Africa and the world.
