The number of girls at risk of child marriage is expected to increase globally due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In West and Central Africa, additional *** thousand girls will risk child marriage between 2020 and 2025, according to estimates. Moreover, in East and Southern Africa, child marriage would concern *** thousand girls more compared to estimates conducted before the pandemic. In Africa, the outbreak also led to increased poverty.
