Sudan was the African country with the highest number of internally displaced persons, those forced to leave their house but remain within their country's borders. In 2025, Sudan counted over 10 million IDPs, in a population of around 50 million people. The Democratic Republic on the Congo had nearly 5.2 million displaced persons, while Nigeria had about 3.6 million.
