The majority of pet owners in Japan have not microchipped their pets, according to a survey conducted in February 2024. While **** percent of dogs held as pets had a microchip implant, only around **** percent of cat owners had a chip injected into their cats. Since ****, implanting microchips in dogs and cats became mandatory for breeders and pet stores in Japan as a measure against a growing stray population.
