Citrus crops represent one of the major components of the Moroccan fruit market. In 2024, around million metric tons of citrus fruits were produced in the country, compared to a total fruit output of around million metric tons in 2023.
Domestic consumption
Citrus fruits produced in the country include oranges, lemons, and limes. Tangerines were estimated to dominate citrus fruits production in the country in recent years, reaching a combined volume of around metric tons in the 2022/2023 marketing year. However, the leading citrus fruits in terms of domestic consumption were oranges. Approximately metric tons of the latter were consumed locally in the 2022/2023 marketing year, and some metric tons of it were consumed the previous year.
Exports
In general, edible fruits and nuts exported from Morocco reached an approximate value of billion U.S. dollars in 2023, and Spain was the country’s leading trade partner. As of the 2019/2020 trade year, around metric tons of citrus fruits were exported from Morocco. Tangerines and mandarins were the most exported, at a volume of metric tons.
