In a majority of the reported cases of abuse in Sweden, the perpetrator was known to the victim. This was especially the case among female victims, where more than 23,000 of the victims reported that the perpetrator was known to them, compared to only around 6,000 who did not know the victim. Among men, the numbers were more evenly divided, with slightly more men reporting that they did not know the perpetrator.
