According to a 2019 survey, approximately ** percent of respondents believe the United Kingdom should deal with its own plastic waste, rather than exporting it to foreign nations.

In 2018, more than 100,000 metric tons of plastic waste exported by the UK made its way to Malaysia. Previously, China was the main destination for waste, but in 2018 new regulations came to force effectively banning waste imports.
