Meeting friends and relatives for an "apéritif" is a popular social practice in France. This activity allows people to share drinks, usually alcoholic, and food, usually savory, in the late afternoon or early evening. Before lockdown, more than half of the French population took part in aperitifs at least once a week, while less than ** percent never participated in this activity.
Because of the ban on social gatherings implemented in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, some people decided to organize as a way to maintain the tradition.
