According to a 2023 survey, the cornerstones of Día de Muertos offerings in Mexico are food, flowers, and candles. Around ** percent of respondents stated that food is the must have element of any altar. On this day, Mexican families often prepare altars in honor of the deceased. Other items such as food, including a traditional sweet bread called 'pan de muerto', flowers, and photographs of the deceased were also considered by most respondents as an essential part of this ritual.
