In the third quarter of 2023, approximately 119 thousand South Africans residing in Limpopo were working in the mining industry, marking a year-on-year change of plus 22,000 employed people. The provinces of the North West and Gauteng revealed high numbers of employees within the industry as well, at 113,000 and 64,000, respectively. However, when compared to the previous third quarter, both provinces experienced a decline in employee numbers.
