As of July 1, 2020, a total of 2,657 COVID-19 related casualties were registered in South Africa in 2020. Majority of deaths fell within the age group of 60 to 69 years with 717 cases, whereas 652 people aged 50 to 59 passed away due to the disease caused by the coronavirus.

Confirmed coronavirus cases per region in South Africa showed that Guateng was hit hardest. As of March 8, 2020, the region with Johannesburg as its capital registered 406,729 individuals with COVID-19 , whereas Western Cape(Cape Town) and Eastern Cape had less cases.
