In 2020, the South African trade, catering and accommodation sector contributed with an added value of approximately 392.3 billion rand (roughly 25.9 billion U.S. dollars) to the country's gross domestic product (GDP). This represents a decrease in comparison to the previous year, when the sector's added value to the country's GDP added up to approximately 431.7 billion rand.
