The number of COVID-19 cases per 100 thousand population in Spain was highest in Navarre. As of March 29, 2022, over 35 thousand infections per 100 thousand population had been recorded in the region. Catalonia, one of the Spanish
communities with the highest number of cases reported around 31 thousand infections per 100 thousand people.
The outbreak in Spain
Since Spain confirmed its first COVID-19 case in La Gomera, Canary Islands, authorities have reported more than 102 thousand deaths as a result of complications stemming from the disease, with
Catalonia accounting for the largest amount. As of March 30, 2022, around 11.55 million cases had been recorded in the European country.
Immunization in Spain
As of March 23, 2022, around 88 percent of the population in Spain had received at least one dose of a vaccine against COVID-19. Moreover, approximately 86 percent were already
fully vaccinated and close to 52 percent had received a booster. By December 20, 2021 the
number of pre-ordered doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the country amounted to 264 million, more than half of which were produced by Pfizer/BioNTech.
