Indian smart speaker market

Since the launch of smart speakers in Indian markets, Amazon held the highest market share for smart speakers in the country. In the last quarter of 2020, Amazon became a pioneer by introducing smart speakers in this market. Along with novelty, several factors contributed to the early adoption of smart speakers. A multi-fold rise in the use of smart speakers was witnessed due to a simultaneous rise of compatible devices across segments.

Market players

Among the companies that launched smart speakers in India, Google was the second most widely used smart speaker brand in the country. Google’s smart speakers were Google assistant-led devices, while ones from Amazon were powered by Alexa. Other prominent players in the market included Bose, Lenovo, Sony, and Apple. Recently Chinese smartphone maker Realme also forayed into this market. However, some of these players used either Google’s or Alexa’s voice assistants. Furthermore, there was a high awareness among the consumers of the different smart speaker brands.
