In 2019, 16 million people aged 15 years and older in Italy held a middle school diploma. This group represented 32.4 percent of the total population in this age group, the largest share among the different educational levels. In addition, 16 million individuals achieved upper secondary education, while 7.8 million people graduated from university.
In the academic year 2018/2019, Italy counted some 1.7 million university students. Individuals enrolled in bachelor programs accounted for over 60 percent of all university students nationwide.
