In 2018, 20.6 percent of women living in Southern Italy had never had a job, in order to take care of their children. In the North, the percentage of mothers who had never worked in their lives because of reasons related to their children was the lowest, about 5.3 percent.
On average, 11.1 percent of women in Italy never had a job in order to stay at home with their children. The average of the 28 European countries was 3.7 percent.
