*The source adds the following information: 'Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, data collection for the 2020/21 survey moved from face-to-face interviewing to telephone mode with a reduction in the number of questions. The results from the CHS 2020/21 are not directly comparable to previous years due to the significant changes to the survey in terms of methodology and content. The output from the survey, in terms of the range and depth of topics covered, has been reduced from that of previous years, with the subsequent capacity for detailed analysis constrained.'

This statistic presents the share of respondents that identified as having participated in swimming or diving from 2015 to 2021, in a survey undertaken to assess the experience of sport in Northern Ireland. 2015 was the year with greatest share of respondents to participate in swimming or diving with ** percent. This was followed by a significant decline in participation to a minimum thus far within the period of ** percent in 2017. Following this initial decline from 2015, the share of respondents that have undertaken this activity has increased to ** percent in 2020 before declining once again to ** percent in 2021 although the reemergence of this decline may be attributed to the change in methodology discussed within the supplementary notes.
