In 2023, the largest share of Christmas trees exported from Denmark was to Germany, amounting to 49 percent of Denmark's total Christmas tree exports. Denmark is one of Europe's largest producers of Christmas trees. Besides exports to the DACH countries, Denmark exported Christmas trees to France and the Benelux, Eastern and Central Europe, the Nordic region and the British islands.
Danish Christmas tree farms
During the period from 2012 to 2024, the number of Christmas tree farms in Denmark fluctuated. It peaked in 2012, when there were roughly 3.5 thousand farms, while it was lowest in 2024, amounting to over 2,200 farms, though that number has slightly increased since. In 2024, most farms were located in the Central Denmark Region, with over 870 tree farms in that region. By comparison, in the Capital Region of Denmark, there were only 127 Christmas tree farms.
Production area
The land area used in Denmark for the Christmas tree production fluctuated recently. In 2012, there were almost 20.6 thousand hectares used. This came to just under 19,000 hectares in 2024.
