Electric vehicles contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In Belgium, the number of electric buses on the road amounted to 19 between 2007 and 2009, before decreasing to just three buses in 2010. From 2017 onwards, the number of electric buses and coaches increased significantly and as of 2020, Belgium had 68 electric buses. In terms of the number of charging stations for electric vehicles, Belgium had nearly 7,500 charging stations in 2020, whereas neighboring countries the Netherlands and Luxembourg had roughly 58,000 and 1,000 charging stations.
