In 2021, Sicily was the Italian region with the highest share of sandy coasts occupied by beach resorts, camping sites, sports clubs, and tourist facilities. According to the study, nearly 56.5 percent of beaches in this region included such facilities. Meanwhile, around 55.7 percent of sandy coasts in Liguria were occupied by tourist facilities that year.
