Marcus & Martinus (@marcusandmartinus) had the most followed TikTok account in Norway in 2019. The two young boys had approximately four million followers, whereas Emilie Lien ranked second in the country, with two million followers. The iOS and Android social media app is focused on short lip-sync and comedy video sharing and grew largely popular over the past few years. What is more, TikTok ranked as the most popular social networking app in the United States, by
average session duration, as of June 2019. Pinterest and Facebook ranked respectively second and third in the list.

user engagement, measured in minutes per month, TikTok ranked second in the United States. American TikTok users spent over 357 minutes per month on the app on average. It was Facebook that topped the ranking, with engagement of nearly 788 minutes monthly. Other networking apps which American users seemed to spend a lot of time on, were Messenger by Google, WhatsApp and Kik.

men and women in Norway appeared to have different opinions, according to a survey conducted in 2019. Facebook and Instagram appeared to be vital for Norwegian women, whereas the corresponding top apps for men were Facebook and Snapchat. Moreover, the weather forecast app Yr was found important by approximately seven percent of Norwegians that year.
