The combination of changing forms of media and distribution coupled with a has shaped the way young people in the United States consume and trust news, a study conducted by the reports.

Roughly 60 percent of college students do not trust the news that they read. Despite the high levels of skepticism towards the press, on the whole about half of surveyed students said they would turn to a traditional, established news source to obtain an accurate picture of what is happening on a current event. Around a fifth of respondents said they would turn to a digital news source, like Buzz Feed or Huffington Post, while a little over a quarter said they would look to social media to understand current events.
