At the stroke of the midnight hour, 72 years ago, when the world slept, India awoke to life and freedom. Since Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India delivered his famous 鈥楾ryst with Destiny鈥� speech, the country has grown in a variety of spheres, drawing and uniting from its many cultures and languages to be one of the world鈥檚 largest economies in the 21st century.

As parades are held in state capitals with marching bands, the tri-colour flag is hoisted and patriotic songs are sung. Students across the country are dressed as their favorite freedom fighters, remembering the struggles of the freedom they enjoy today whilst pledging to protect it for future Indians.
