A sniper with Canada's elite Joint Task Force 2 special forces unit has shattered the record for the longest confirmed sniper kill in military history. Sources in Iraq say the soldier killed an ISIS fighter at a distance of over two miles. The 3,450 meter shot in question was made with a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle from a high-rise building at some stage over the past 30 days.

The previous world record was held by Craig Harrison from the UK who killed a Taliban fighter from 2,475 meters away in Afghanistan in 2009. A previous Canadian, Corporal Rob Furlong, held the record in 2002 when he shot an Afghan insurgent at a distance of 2,430 meters during Operation Anaconda.
