Yesterday, along with many countries, Ireland enjoyed its first bank holiday of the summer. Even though people enjoyed their time off all the way from Donegal to Cork, some might be wondering if they actually have a pretty raw deal. According to, Ireland lags behind other EU nations in bank holidays. Austria, Sweden, Poland and Portugal are all going to have 13 bank holidays this year.

There have been calls for more bank holidays in Ireland with Sinn F茅in in particular formulating a plan to celebrate the Easter Rising with a new holiday.
