The (THE) has released the roundup of the leading universities in Africa. Topping the list, comes the University of Cape Town in South Africa. The institutions in second and third place are also South African, with Stellenbosch and the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.

As our chart shows, five out of the top eight places ranked by THE are in South Africa. Ghana鈥檚 University of Cape Coast comes in fourth place, while Ethiopia鈥檚 Addis Ababa University is joint sixth with Egypt鈥檚 Aswan University. In the full list of rankings, which includes 46 universities, 23 of them are in Egypt and 11 in South Africa.

In tenth place, comes Algeria鈥檚 Ferhat Abbas S茅tif University 1, tied with Nigeria鈥檚 University of Lagos, Kenya鈥檚 University of Nairobi, South Africa鈥檚 North-West University, as well as Egypt鈥檚 Kafrelsheikh, Mansoura and Suez Canal Universities.

According to the online UK magazine, the rankings are determined by that include subcategories of teaching, research volume and reputation, research impact, innovation and international outlook.
