The Indian Ministry of Tourism has released numbers on the most visited ticketed monuments in India and at least the top 1 position comes as no surprise. The Taj Mahal was the most visited monument in India among national and international visitors alike, with 5.7 million domestic and 0.8 million international guests paying to stare at the marble wonder.

The Red Fort in Delhi was another option popular among both groups and drew around 3 million domestic and 140,000 international visitors. Many also dropped by Delhi鈥檚 Qutab Minar (2.6 million domestic and 300,000 foreign visitors) and Agra Fort (2 million domestic and 490,000 international visitors) while they were at it.

Otherwise, the most popular destinations of domestic and international visitors differed quite a bit. While domestic visitors flocked to the Sun Temple in Konark, Maharashtra and Hyderabad, international tourists were more likely to stop off at locations close to Agra, Delhi or Varanasi. Further South, most international tourist visited monuments near Kochi or Chennai.
