Pumpkins
Not just for Halloween: Germany's pumpkin boom
In Germany, people don't just buy a pumpkin to carve out a jack-o'-lantern for Halloween. Butternut squash, hokkaido and other types of pumpkin have been soaring in popularity across Germany in recent years. Versatility is one of main reasons for the boom - it can be used in a whole host of dishes from soup to quiche. Since 2006, the pumpkin crop has more than doubled in Germany.
